BEAUTY | Day Of The Dead Makeup Tutorial

1:23 pm

Halloween is upon us again and what better way to embrace the scary season than dressing up in the style of Dia de Los Muertos! Otherwise known as The Day of the Dead, an Aztec ritual dating back to three-thousand years ago. While we don black and listen to solemn music to honour the dead, in Mexico people visit the cemetery where their loved ones rest and dance around in wooden skull masks. The grave stones are decorated with marigolds, candles, and toys are left for deceased children and tequila for the adults. While we see death as the end of life they embrace it as the continuation. This ritual actually occurs in early November but it works hand-in-hand with the night of Hallows don't you think? So now that you know a bit about the history  you can learn how to do the make-up with this easy DIY tutorial! Let us know how it goes with a comment below, love the Stelly team x x x

What you'll need:
♥ White face paint
♥ Sponge
♥ Eyeshadow in the colour of your choice
♥ A darker share of colour
♥ Emergency face wipes
♥ Gems
♥ Fake eyelashes and glue
♥ Floral crown (optional)

Step 1: Cover your face completely in white face paint following it all the way down to the jaw! (avoid getting any on the neck)

Step 2: take the lighter shade of your eyeshadow and colour in two large circles around the eyes, you'll want to go just about the eyebrows, follow the jaw line down and stop just above the tip of the nose.

Step 3: Using your darker shade cover the eyelids and underneath your eyes than take your eye liner and colour in the entire nose, you'll want to stop on the bridge of the nose creating two sharp points.

Step 4: Draw a line from the lips all the way along the cheeks and add two little swirls on the end then repeat on the other side. Next add vertical lines all the way along the lips.

Step 5: To create the spider web start by drawing a straight line down the centre of the head then branch off with two more lines following the shape of the blue circles then fill in the remaining lines. Next draw the flower on the chin by creating three tear drops then colour in using your eye shadows.

Step 6: Glue on your fake eye lashes.

Step 7: The fun part! Using your eye lash glue stick the gems around your eyes following the shapes of the blue circles.

Step 8: Let that hair down and pop on your flower crown!
